Project: William S. Middleton Memorial Veteran’s Hospital consolidation

Address: 2500 Overlook Terrace, Madison

Cost: $7.4 million

Size: 28,000 square feet

Start date: June 16, 2014

Estimated completion date: Dec. 31

Owner: U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs

Lead contractors: Inc., Janesville, and Inc., Arlington

Lead architect/engineer: Inc., Milwaukee

Number of workers employed: 20

Project challenges: The construction is on the eighth floor of the hospital, and the floor below is completely occupied. That can make it difficult to ensure there are no unplanned disruptions to the hospital’s operations. Another challenge is that five different additions are connected to make up the space that is being renovated.

Significance to the region: The hospital has been providing care to veterans since 1951, and the renovation will help the Department of Veterans Affairs continue to meet veterans’ needs.
