Kraus-Anderson Construction Co. has acquired Phoenix-based Sonoran Crest Construction, a first-of-its-kind deal for the local company.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition expands the Minneapolis company’s growth in the southwest U.S. and is the first acquisition of another company in KA Construction’s 126-year history, according to a press release. Founded 20 years ago, Sonoran Crest Construction has an “established healthcare presence,” KA said.

KA Construction said in the release that the southwest U.S. is the fifth largest construction market in the country and “a national hub for the healthcare industry, one of KA’s largest building units.”

“Sonoran Crest’s highly regarded reputation, expertise and construction team align beautifully with our strategic planning, and as importantly, with our existing culture and core purpose of building enduring relationships and strong communities,” Al Gerhardt, president of Construction Co., said in the release. “The expansion will further cultivate a solid footprint by leveraging synergies and diversified capabilities to capitalize on a dynamic regional market.”

TJ Roe, chairman and founder of Sonoran Crest, said in the release that Kraus-Anderson Construction’s “first-ever acquisition is a historic milestone that marks the significance of this strategic alignment.

“KA is a leader in the industry, and its wealth of talent and exceptional resources will propel robust growth in our burgeoning market. Our symmetry of complementary strengths, unified vision of the future, and common values will provide a solid foundation for success. We are thrilled to become a part of the Kraus-Anderson family,” said Roe, who will serve as Sonoran Crest’s director of business development.

The Phoenix company will operate as Sonoran Crest Construction — A Division of Kraus-Anderson Construction Co.

Jaki Scott, Sonoran Crest’s director of operations, will lead the Phoenix office.
