Project: Expansion of the ‘s Tosa Center

Address: 1155 N. Mayfair Road, Wauwatosa

Cost: Not reported

Size: 100,977 square feet — 60,000 square feet existing, plus a new addition of 40,977 square feet

Start date: August 2015

Estimated completion date: May 2016

Owner: Irgens

Lead contractor: C.G. Schmidt

Lead architect/engineer:

Number of workers employed:  Over the course of construction, 150 to 200 different trades workers are anticipated to be on site.

Project challenge: Irgens developed the original Tosa Center facility for the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1998. The Tosa Center is one of the busiest clinics in Medical College of Wisconsin’s ambulatory care network. In order to expand the Tosa Center, an adjacent land parcel purchase was needed. That purchase took years to complete. The existing clinic will remain open during construction, making construction logistics a high priority. The building’s exterior was designed to complement the existing building. Additionally, the interior of the building was designed to not only provide highly efficient space for new clinical programs, but to also seamlessly integrate with existing clinical space.

Significance to the region: The three-story expansion to the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Tosa Center will bring new clinics, renovate existing clinical space and provide physician office space. The expansion project will bring together a family of clinics under one roof in a convenient and accessible location. Those include the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Plastic Surgery Center, Cascadia MediSpa, and Vein Clinic. The SpineCare Clinic and Hand Clinic, currently in the Tosa Center, will be expanded and renovated.
