C-Level Awards 2026: Mike Abuls, Chief Operating Officer, CG Schmidt

Mike Abuls has spent more than two decades building one of Wisconsin’s most respected construction operations, earning recognition as a leading executive in the industry.

As chief operating officer of CG Schmidt, Abuls provides executive direction over safety, quality control, lean construction and project delivery — systems he helped standardize from preconstruction through closeout. His hands-on approach keeps him visible across active projects, working directly with teams to remove obstacles and reinforce performance expectations.

Under his leadership, CG Schmidt achieved the most successful year in company history in 2024, with momentum continuing through 2025 and into 2026.

“Mike’s leadership goes far beyond projects and processes, it’s about people,” said Eric Schmidt, president and CEO of CG Schmidt. “His leadership has driven meaningful, measurable improvement, strengthened our culture, and positioned CG Schmidt for sustained success.”

Abuls holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University. He serves on the board of the Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee, where he served as president in 2020, and is a member of the Lean Construction Institute of America.

He has received the Harvey Peterson Award and the Icon of Construction honor from the Daily Reporter.
