C-Level Awards 2026: Tony Klein | Chief Financial Officer, Hunzinger Construction Company

Tony Klein has served as Chief Financial Officer of Hunzinger Construction Company for 29 years, providing steady financial leadership to the Milwaukee-area general contracting firm since 1997.
Klein, a Certified Public Accountant and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse graduate, began his career at Price Waterhouse before joining Hunzinger, a family-owned firm founded in 1907 that became an employee-owned company in 2018.

His dedication was tested during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Klein lived in the office to keep the company functioning — sleeping on a couch and ensuring employees, subcontractors and vendors were paid while transitioning his staff to remote work.

“Tony provides a steady hand and has a commonsense approach to his work and is respected by our vendors, bonding and insurance companies and the financial institutions we bank with,” said Joan Zepecki, Director of Corporate Affairs at Hunzinger Construction Company.

Klein oversees five direct reports and supports all 140 Hunzinger employees in understanding the company’s ESOP structure and how individual actions impact company value.

Under his leadership, Hunzinger appeared on Deloitte’s Wisconsin 75 list from 2009 through 2025 and has been recognized as a top workplace by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for 16 consecutive years.
