The Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin will host its skill competition for apprentices in West Bend on Friday.
Apprentices from technical colleges across the state will show off their skills in four construction categories, and winners will go on to compete at the national championships in Florida.
The event kicks off at the Washington County Fairgrounds and Conference, 3000 Pleasant Valley Road, in West Bend at 8 a.m., association officials said. Top apprentices will participate in a hands-on competition for carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing skills.
After the competition, a panel of judges will review projects and participants will take a written exam. The event wraps up with a dinner and awards ceremony before ending at 6:30 p.m.
Judges will pick winners from each category and winners will move on to ABC’s National Craft Championships in Orlando, Florida in March.
In August, ABC of Wisconsin reported having more than 1,900 active apprentices that month with 540 new enrollees incoming. Officials said this was the highest enrollment in the program’s 35-year history.
